Another week in Second Grade
We have had a super busy week! I hope you had a chance to attend our parent orientation for Standards Based Grading (SBG) or watch the video online. You have received links to Mastery Connect to access your student's progress report.
This week in. . . .
Reading-
We set up our reading groups and studied non-fiction texts this week. Students are busy reading books and taking reading counts quizzes. We have some leaves on our classroom tree. We have a classroom challenge to put fifty leaves on our tree. Once we meet fifty trees we will have a reading reward party!
Math-
Last Friday, we had our first math test. Thank you so much for helping your student get ready for the math test. This week we will start a new unit on place value.
Writing-
In writing, we talked about narrative stories have beginnings, middles, and ends. We read Saturdays and Teacakes (a personal narrative) and tried to use repetition a move that Lester L. Laminack uses in his writing.
Science-
It was exciting to switch to a unit in science. We are studying forces of motion. We did an experiment this week with our cars.

This is our forces of motion lab. We tested pushing our car past our first line. Then we pushed the car trying to get it past our second line. We compared our pushes and reflected that it took a greater push to get the car past the second line because it was farther away. The first and second line was 5 ft apart.
