This week in . . . . .
Reading- We have been looking at character traits. One thing that is new for students is that they will be asked to do is to think of synonyms and antonyms of words they encounter in readings. Some questions that you could ask your child is what key words mean in stories or passages? For instance if they encountered brave in a reading passage. They could be asked. What is a word that is the same? What is a word that is not the same?
Writing-We finished our All About Landform books. Students chose their Animal topic this week. They checked out a book from the library. Students will now write their own Animal book. They will be doing research on their animal in the coming weeks and they will write their own All About Book.
Student's were also introduced to how to use the dictionary. They will start having a word of the week to look up in the dictionary.
Social Studies-We located the seven continents and five oceans. We learned a song with motions to help us remember where they are located.
We had a wonderful Veteran's Day Assembly!
Please make sure your child completes their reading. It is best for students to read aloud to you to help them build their reading fluency.
